“The Munich study days [under Hugo von Habermann] barely left traces in Gretel Gerber‘s style […]. In terms of technique, however, Hambermann‘s classes had quite soem impact, the artist uses his “limited palette“ up until today [1993]. Habermann taught his student to put just a small number of different colors on his palette as the basis for all other color gradings. Gretel Hass-Gerber uses black, white, ochre, English red, Sienna and ultramarine. However, the young artist was most decisively coined in Karlsruhe, where she found a rich artistic context between New Objectivity and expressive Realism that emerged in the 1920s and made Karlsruhe once more the art metropolis on the Upper Rhine.“ (Gerline Brandenburg-Eisele, in: Ex. cat. Gretel Haas-Gerber, Städtisches Museum im Ritterhaus Offenburg, Offenburg 1993, pp. 13f.). [CB].
