At the same time one of Bernard Richel's last print. It is said that at times ome 500 monks were active in his Basel printshop. - The dominican Hugo de Saint-Cher (around 1200-1263) was cardinal, advisor and diplomat of Gregor IX. and Pope Innocent IV. He is regarded one of the Middle Age's most influential bible commentators. - Lacking first quire as well as single ll. (most at the Gospel's beginnings), also lacking last blank leaf. The first (b1) and last leaf (v7) only as fragment. - With slight isolated stains and browning, first ll. with marginal blemish. Binding skillfully restored in places, pastedown using an old vellum manuscript. All in all fine and broad-margined print with contemp. marginalia.First edition of this important commentary.
