Paar mit Tablett. 1927.
Watercolour and pencil.
Monogrammed and dated lower right. Once more dated on the reverse. On wove paper. 28,5 : 18,5 cm (11,2 : 7,2 in), size of sheet. Erich Borchert studied mural painting at the Bauhaus in Dessau from 1926 to 1929. His teachers included the leading masters of “free painting”: Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky and Lyonel Feininger. In 1929 Borchert moved to Moscow, where he worked in the department for developing colour in architectural design and in urban planning. The present two-dimensionally conceived figure composition dates from Borchert’s Bauhaus days. In technique and the skill with which the surfaces overlap and interpenetrate, it recalls the work of his celebrated teachers. [LB]

Slightly discoloured. The reverse of the corners mounted in passe-partout montiert, the front softly discoloured and rubbed. With minor ripples due to the technique. Upper left corner with three tears (up to ca. 3 cm), there also a small paper loss.
