At the same period he also visited the islands of the coast of Thrace, vz. Thasos, Samothrace, Lemnos, and Imbros; the account he produced of those islands was published in 1860 as Reise auf den Inseln des Thrakischen Meeres. He later carried out archaeological excavations in Samothrace.
