Rainer Fetting’s painting is invariably more than mere reproduction of a motif. His choice of subject matter does match convention but while he is translating it into pictures, the painting process develops a value of its own that deprives the motif derived from reality of its dominant position in the picture. As Fetting envisages it, motifs are grounded in painting itself: 'I always paint pictures rather than particular subjects' (quoted in: Uwe Haupenthal, in: Künstler. Kritisches Lexikon der Gegenwartskunst, Munich 1996, p. 7). Our landscape has been developed entirely from colour and exerts through its vibrant palette an extraordinarily strong sensory pull on the viewer. [NB]

Zustand: In good condition. A few minor traces of rubbing on the margins.
