• The triptych from a small edition of only 25 copies is rarely offered on the international auction market as a complete set.
• Edition based on the painting "Sunset I" from the series of the same name from 2004, in which Katz depicts the transition phase between day and night when the sun sets below the horizon.
• Since the late 1950s, the artist has spent the summer months at his 'Yellow House' in Maine, where he observed the different phases of the sunset as shown here.
• The woodcut technique underlines the romantic mood of the motif, which is one of the artist's most atmospheric works.
• In addition to the portraits, landscape depictions also play an important role in the artist's œuvre.
• With his high-contrast, abstract landscapes, Katz combines the motifs of European Romanticism with the expressive pictorial language of pop art.
• In recent years, Katz has been honored internationally with grand solo exhibitions at, among others, the Guggenheim Museum, New York (2022/23), the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid (1922), and the Museum Brandhorst, Munich (2019)
