In 1905 Gabriele Münter and Kandinsky travelled to Rapallo on the Ligurian Riviera, in May that year they went to Paris where they would stay for a year. As far as the artistic output of those days is concerned, enchanting park views are particularly worthwhile mentioning. Münter captures the light atmosphere with just a few dabs of paint that she applies onto the canvas with a spatula. Her choice of colors already hints at the radical step she would later take towards the gaudy painting of Expressionism. [EH]
