Lower right monogrammed. On Arches wove paper (with watermark). 28 x 38 cm (11 x 14.9 in), size of sheet. [CH].

• Preparatory drawing for a painting of the same name from the same year.
• Other nudes from this year of creation are at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
• In Matisse's drawings, paintings, prints and sculptures, the female nude occupies a prominent position and thus determines his entire artistic work.
• In what is probably his most famous work "La Danse" (1909, Museum of Modern Art, New York), Matisse deals with the female nude and the female rear nude
.

This work's authenticity ahs kindly been confirmed by Wanda de Guébriant (with the hand-written inscription from April 19, 1996 on the reverse).
