This sheet presumably depicts a scene from Goethe's Faust directed by Max Reinhardt and premiered at the Deutsches Theater in Berli. [SM].
• Made in the metropolis Berlin in winter 1910/11.
• Nolde loved Berlin's lively theater world.
• Marvelous example of the expressive reduction of the figure and the colors' independence.
