Ansicht von Davos (Landschaft bei Davos im Winter). Um 1925.
Watercolor and black chalks.
Signed and dated in lower left. On firm gray wove paper. 35.7 x 48.9 cm (14 x 19.2 in), the full sheet. [CH].
Verso with a portrait (India ink) showing the mother of Dr. Frédéric Bauer, Kirchner's physician and close confidant. A little later Kirchner also made two paintings of Mrs. Bauer, of which one used to be part of the collection of Dr. Frédéric Bauer (Gordon 885 and 886). [CH].
• For some time part of the collection of Dr. Frédéric Bauer, Davos, Kirchner's physician, important patron and close confidant.
• Painted on both sides: verso with a sublte portrait study of Dr. Frédéric Bauer's mother.
• Spontaneus, atmospherically dense depiction of the impressive Davos alpine landscape.
• A painting of the Davos landscape in snow is in possession of the Kunstmuseum Basel (1923, Gordon 716), a watercolor of the Davos landscape is at the Städel Museum in Frankfurt am Main (1924)
.
