• In the difficult years following the closure of the Bauhaus in Dessau and the takeover of the National Socialists, Feininger spent the spring and summer of 1934 in Deep near Stettin on the Baltic Sea. • Delightful accentuation with blue and pink tones at a time when shades of gray dominate his watercolors. • Ships and sailing boats are a recurring motif in his watercolors.
The watercolor is registered in the Lyonel Feininger Archive of Watercolors and Drawings with the number 1327-04-08-15.
