• Typical maritime depiction from the artist‘s late period of creation
• Made in 1950 in Cambridge or Plymouth on the coast of Massachusetts, where Feininger spent the summer- and autumn months
• Made the same year Feininger executed the large wall painting for the passenger liner SS Constituion.

Accompanied by a photo expertise issued by Achim Moeller, managing director of the Lyonel Feininger Project LLC, New York - Berlin on February 23, 2005. The work is registered at the Lyonel Feininger archive of watercolors and drawings with the number 110-02-23-05.
