This painting is mentioned as no. 8 on a list of works that Jawlensky sent to Emmy Galka Scheyer on December 1, 1934 an . [CH].
• Notable provenance: Part of the collections of Galka Scheyer and later Eric Warburg, USA.
• From the work series that explores the relation between man and god.
• In 1934 the artist already worked on his "Meditations", whereas this work shows the composition features characteristic of the "Abstract Heads".
• This "Small Abstarct Head" seems liek an abstract of all 'Heads' and 'Faces' on the path to the mature 'Meditation'

Accompanied by a photo expertise issued by the Alexej von Jawlensky-Archive S. A., Locarno, on October 22, 2003. The work will be included into the addenda of the catalog raisonné of paintings.
