"[..] in 1890 a new phase in Trübner's creation commenced. It [..] was mainly determined by his whereabouts, which brought the landscape talent in Trübner to full bloom. From that point on the genius loci of every place would influence Trübner's art. The curtain in front of his studio's window was literally raised. The plein-air period began with his landscape paintings." (Beringer 1917, p. XXVII)
