"Now a real furioso began: a quick look, a swift and fitful movement of the brush, and the contours of the face were done. The shading was done likewise quick and apparently without much consideration, short strokes with a very moist brush on the absorbent Japon so that corrections were not possible at all. […] seeing the essence, well, the deepest secret, recognized, formed.“
