This drawing and the painting of the same name were made in Königstein where Ernst Ludwig Kirchner spent several months at the sanatorium of Dr. Kohnstamm in order to find relief from his WWI trauma.
In 1922 Kirchner met the head physician Dr. Frederic Bauer in Davos, who soon became Kirchner's close friend and confidant, as well as a passionate collector of his works. This drawing also became part of the acclaimed collection. [CH]
