Erntefeld. Um 1945. Oil on canvas. V. Wedel 321. Lower right signed and inscribed "Arrode". 69 x 84 cm (27.1 x 33 in).
After his studio in Dresden was destroyed in February 1945 and his troublesome flight to Westphalia, Böckstiegel arrived at his birthplace Arrode as a broken man scarred by the events of the war. This work is the first and presumably only painting that Böckstiegel made during this dramatic year.
