In his paintings Eduard Bargheer was predominantly occupied with city- and landscapes. Only a few works were dedicated to the classic portrait genre. In 1953 he executed this portrait with the title "Etrusker", just two other watercolors from the same subject field are known of. (Cf. Henze 1953/22 and 1953/23)
