The expressive lithograph offered here is a very strong document of Picasso's absolute will to realize his artistic concept in consideration of his chosen formal principles in those days. The linear frame of the depicted person's chest and head is emphasized and the originally richer drawing within the outlines is alleviated. This new device of reduction is particularly striking in the sharp pointed triangular geometric ornament in the image's lower margin. At first sight it looks like a border between the observer and the depicted person. Taking a closer look it turns out to be the young woman's embroidered blouse.
