Fred Thieler - Dialog mit der Farbe. Kunsthalle Emden / Foundation Henri Nannen. 3 November 1991 - 02 February 1992.

From around 1954 on Fred Thieler experimented with the spatula technique: "These pictures [.], for which I apply dry, doughy screen printing ink onto the firm ground, are created from the strong need for an intense duct. Small crystalline slivers spread out like thousands of pieces of broken glass. [.] The palette has intentionally been reduced to just a few colors. The more Thieler concentrates his choice of colors, the more distanced and clearer the pictures appear." (Quote after: Andrea Firmenich, Fred Thieler, Cologne 1995, p. 12). In this work Fred Thieler lets the background shine through. With an explosive force the bright yellow competes against the lucent blue. It is the clear reduction to just a few colors that makes our picture so appealing.
