PROVENANCE: Private collection North Rhine-Westphalia.

As of the mid 1960s Adolf Luther replaced the pieces of broken glass with which he had captured his light compositions with eyeglass lenses, concave and convex bulged mirrors, lenses and prisms. The usage of these high quality materials leads Luther to a significant finding concerning light: "The light energy carries images. [.] I regard light as a transoptical substance of an infinite graphic quality." (Quote after: Magdalena Broska, Adolf Luther, Kritisches Lexikon der Gegenwartskunst, p. 7). The mirror objects count among the artist's classic light objects. In these works Luther classifies the formally identical and equivalent elements according to non-hierarchic serial structures that make ever new constellations of his unique light architectures sensuously perceptible.
