The artist is considered one of the most important representatives of Prague history painting. In his else rather large-size works Brozík was mainly occupied with themes from Bohemian history and Bohemian legends. He attended the academies in Prague and Dresden shortly and largely taugh tpainting himself on basis of Old Masters, which he studied thoroughly. Works from his last period of creation, among which this work also counts, show a slight tendency towards a lighter and more modern style. After a trip to the Normandy around 1890 he began to make peasant pictures that illustrate this ambition.
