LITERATURE: Galerie Benden & Klimczak (editor), Tom Wesselmann: Abstract Maquettes, 2000, p. 34/ 35 with illu. in colors.

Based on his figurative Pop Art works, such as the series "Nudes“ or his still lifes, Tom Wesselmann also attained purely abstract compositions in the mid 1990s. He remained true to his style, however, Wesselmann employed his means of artistic creation in a new context. Wesselmann arranges abstract forms as cut-outs painted with lucent acrylic paint on the surface and creates a three-dimensional effect. With these works, which also unfold their artistic value in smaller formats, the artist explored new and experimental paths in the last years of his life.
