Red is the color that allows Bernard Aubertin to express his artistic intention. The artist also associates red with fire. In this work its power is emphasized by the nails cracking splitting the wood. This primal aggressiveness is in thrilling contrast with the nails serial arrangement and the color fields' clarity.
Since the late 1980s he has also made black pictures. As of 1960 Bernard Aubertin began with the nail pictures which would become a leitmotif of his artistic creation.
