As far as their conception is concerned, Erich Heckel's watercolors from the 1920 are characterized by a dense expression that calls reminiscence of paintings originating from these days. Heckel created his image worlds in a sort of expressive Realism, which, in comparison with those from the days before World War I, have a much more moderate statement. The technique gains in importance and the graphic element, which Heckel never entirely abandoned, comes to the fore.
