Etude de Nu (Aktstudie). 1907/ 1908.
Etching.
Vallier 1. Trial proof before the edition of 55 copeis. On wove paper. 27,7 x 19,6 cm (10,9 x 7,7 in). Sheet: 40,5 x 31,5 cm (15,9 x 12,4 in).
This is Braque's graphic work. The date of origin could be retrieved on the basis of a drawing in the collection Douglas Cooper, which is dated 1907. As the artist rarely improvised on the printing plate, the date can be determined as terminus antequem. So far eleven Cubist graphic works are known of. They make for a separate series in a sense that the artist did not make graphic art before 1921 when he made his first lithographs. Later, in 1932, he made copper engravings upon Ambroise Vollard's request. [EH].
