Lot description
Gehender Esel. 1911.

Gabler 158. With monogram in circle and artist's name on plinth. Edge of plinth with foundry mark "H. Noack Berlin Friedenau". Presumably one of 30 estate casts from 1921. Ca. 9,8 x 14,5 x 4 cm (3,8 x 5,7 x 1,5 in).
Cast by Gießerei Noack, Berlin.

The donkey Fritze was a present from the art dealer Paul Cassirer to the Gaul family in 1907. Fritze inspired Gaul to a series of six works called "Eselei", in which he examined various movement motifs of the animal. [CB].
