Rudolf Schoofs was born on 3 January 1932 in Goch on the Lower Rhine. In 1954 he completed his studies in Krefeld under Georg Muche and became his assistant. As of 1958 he taught at the Staatlichen Werkkunstschule in Kassel and as of 1961 at the Werkkunstschule Wuppertal. In 1975 Schoofs became professor at the Kunstakademie Karlsruhe and in 1976 at the Kunstakademie Stuttgart. Schoofs received numerours honors and prizes for his work, among others, the Eduard-von-der-Heydt-Prize from the city of Wuppertal in 1969, in 1970 the Zille-Prize for critical graphic art in Hanover and in 1991 the Ferdinand-Langenberg-Culture Prize from the city of Goch. The artist died on 28 July, 2009 in Stuttgart. [KH].
