PROVENANCE: From artist's estate.

Fritz Gils was born in Darmstadt in 1901. After he had finished his studies at the School of Applied Arts in Mainz, which he had completed with the state examination for art teachers, he studied at the State Academy in Kassel from 1926 to 1930. As a member of the “Darmstädter Gruppe“ and “Darmstädter Secession“ he created an outstanding oeuvre of drawings and painting which follow the style of New Objectivity. The paintings‘ remarkable quality captivate the observer with a still carity and harmony of colors and delivers proof of the artist’s aesthetic sense, such as it is the case with this double nude offered in our auction.
