Lot description
Brush and India ink drawing
Monogrammed and dated lower right. On delicate brownish paper. 28 x 20,9 cm (11 x 8,2 in), size of sheet

PROVENANCE: Galerie Monika Sprüth, Cologne.
Texas Gallery, Houston/USA.

Drawings are what Trockel made almost exclusively during her artistic education, remains an independent part within her oeuvre, whereas she often developed signs or situations that were directly executed in her three-dimensional works in the 1980s. In 1983 the Galerie Monika Sprüht in Cologne hosted the artist’s first one-mad show. As of the mid 1980s she made the first knit pictures and objects which will make for Trockel‘s international fame. Thus Trockel intentiously chooses a medium that is generally associated with typical female activities. Despite all variations of topics and her work‘s manifold means of artistic expression, one thing that all her works have in common is the unpretentious way of presentation, which can also be said about our work from this extremely important period of creation. It was presumably made as a draft for one of her three-dimensional creations. [JS].
