Brunet II, 1 (under Ciacconius). - UCBA I, 261. - Cf. BM STC, Italian Books p. 167. - Second edition of the series of coppers on Trajan's Column, first released in 1576. One of the most remarkable Renaissance series of illustrations. Coppers made by Francesco Villamena, who followed the models of Raphael and his students Guilio Romano and Giovanni Polydoro, text written by the Spanish historian Alfonso Chacón (also Ciaccone). - Trajan's Column in Rome was erected 114 AD, which commemorates the Roman's victory in the Dacian Wars 101-106, the two folding copper plates (both ca. 98 : 14 cm) show the outside of the column with the more than 200 m long frieze as well as a cross section and a ground plan. - Partly with waterstains affecting the image and with slightly browned margins, few plates with padded marginal blemishes, first ll. (incl. 2-3 copperplates) with soiled margins, folding coppers with creasemarks, few padded folding splits and 1 small defective spot, last 3 copperplates with partly rebacked creasemark, 1 plate laid on backing. Binding defective.
