Dube L 133. Schiefler L 95. Signed and inscribed "Handdruck" (hand print). Twice with stamp "Unverkäuflich E.L. Kirchner" (Not for Sale) as well as with estate stamp of Kunstmuseum Basel (Lugt 1570b) on verso, there with number "L 95 I". Copy from the artist's archive. Only 8 known copies. On wove paper. 33 x 40,5 cm (12,9 x 15,9 in). Sheet: 39,4 x 44,7 cm (15,5 x 17,5 in).
Kirchner usually treated the stone directly with feather or brush, or, as it is the case with this work, with chalk. Together with Erich Heckel he developed a method to make impressions from the stone drawings by hand. The editions rarely go beyond five to seven copies. This one is a copy from the artist's archive. Kirchner marked one impression of his prints 'not for sale' and kept it for documentation. [JS].

We are grateful to Prof. Dr. Günther Gercken, Lütjensee, for his kind expert advice.

PROVENANCE: Galerie Wolfgang Ketterer, Munich 1981, cat. no. 715.
