Greeting card from Dresden to Gustav Schiefler. Dated "21.1.10" on the stamp."At the time he received the card the Hamburge gallery Commeter showed his first single exhibition with a great selection of watercolors that had been made on his last summer stay in Dangast. [..]. Due to a simultaneous exhibition with woks by Emil Nolde [..] a controversy arose because of exhibition space that had been granted to Schmidt-Rotluff, in which Schiefler tried to mediate between the two painters which both sought to protect their interests. Sending Schiefler a drawing on a postcard is on the one hand a sign of appreciation for his efforts, on the other hand Schmidt-Rottluff wanted to express his ongoing connection with Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Erich Heckel by means of this subject and despite all differences of character. In their works from the same period the young model often appears in various versions." (Translation of quote from Gerhard Wietek, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. Zeichnungen auf Postkarten, Cologne 2010, 87ff.). [JS].

PROVENANCE: Collection Gustav Schiefler.
