During his years in Dresden Conrad Felixmüller increasingly turned to landscape painting. The colors‘ freshness, often increased to have a transient effect, emanates an openness to nature‘s inner beauty that Felixmüller render homage to with his particular color pathos. The pastoral atmosphere is contrasted with a somewhat cool coloring, it is thus deprived of any notion of rural idyll. Large color surface are structured and appear to be subdue to the overall perspective, which adds a rather spiritual atmosphere to the rural subject, this is even more increased by the fact that his landscapes usually have do to entirely without any kind of figure staffage. In works originating from this period his curiosity for new means of artistic expression mixes with style features he already had acquired. [KD].
