Paris. 1928.
Watercolour and pencil.
Signed lower right. With date and title on the backing. On laid paper. 37,9 : 51 cm (14,9 : 20 in), the full sheet. The painter and printmaker Gertrud Eberz-Alber studied at the Stuttgart Art Academy, where she was in Adolf Hölzel’s master class. Although she lived with her husband, Josef Eberz, in Munich during the 1920s, she kept a studio of her own in Stuttgart. Gertrud Eberz-Alber is known primarily for her landscape watercolours, portraits and still lifes. She found many of her motifs on trips and longer stays for study that took her to Italy, Yugoslavia and Paris. Her flat, abstract style of painting is highly decorative and reveals the influence of both Expressionism and Hölzel’s handling of composition and colour theory. [BR]

PROVENIENZ: Private collection South Germany.

In good condition. The reverse of the upper corners firmly mounted on backing. Remains of an old mount on the lower corners, partially minimally pushing through to the front.
