Handwritten inscription on the reverse of the lower edge of the sheet: “No. 42 Stacked Color Series (2) 1969 Richard Tuttle” and on the right edge of the sheet: “Dr. Rathke”. 30.2 x 22.8 cm (11.8 x 8.9 in), size of sheet.

• From the early period of American post-minimalist Richard Tuttle.
• Participated in the groundbreaking exhibition “When Attitudes Become Form” at the Kunsthalle Bern in the year it was created.
• Comparable watercolors can be found in major American museum collections such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
PROVENANCE: Private collection, Frankfurt am Main.
Family-owned ever since.
LITERATURE: Sotheby's London, Post War and Contemporary Art, October 22, 1987, lot 581 (illu.).
In good condition. Slightly browned overall, somewhat more so along the edges of the leaves. There is a light spot in each of the upper two corners of the leaves, caused by the mounting on the reverse side.
