Stillleben. 1976.
Mixed media on cardboard.
Signed and dated in the lower left. 85 x 64 cm (33.4 x 25.1 in).
[AR].
• Offered on the international auction market for the first time.
• From a small group of vibrant still lifes created in 1976, around a year before the painter's death.
• With works in radiant colors and with ornamental forms, Max Kaus discovered a completely new and utterly harmonious expressiveness.
PROVENANCE: Private collection North Germany (directly from the artist).
LITERATURE: Cf. regarding the twelve still lifes in a size of 85 x 64 cm from 1976:
Claus Zoege von Manteuffel, Max Kaus. 1891-1977, in: Irmtraud Frfr. von Adrian-Werburg, Gerhard Bott (eds.), Max Kaus. Werke und Dokumente, Nuremberg 1991, pp. 15-110, here p. 108.
Radiant work, in good condition. Corners slightly bumped and with small color losses. A small hole in both upper corners of the sheet. Unobtrusive craquelure in places. Irregular trimming in the left and lower margin. The lines scratched into the paint are a feature of the work. The condition report was compiled in daylight with the help of a UV light source and to the best of our knowledge.
