Diana auf der Hirschkuh. Um 1901/1907.
Silver, partially gilded, mounted on a wooden plinth.
Signed on the plinth. With the stamp “Milde & Co” and the silver hallmark “Reichskrone und Halbmond 900” (imperial crown and crescent, 900 – standard German silver mark since 1888) on the side. Special edition in silver. Total dimensions including the wooden base: 54 x 48 x 14 cm (21.2 x 18.8 x 5.5 in).
Cast by Adalbert Milde & Co, Dresden, presumably around 1907.
• Unique, very rare special edition in silver.
• The goddess of the moon hunting on a hind is one of the most successful and accomplished motifs from Wrba's early creative period.
• Delicate, feminine, and dynamic at the same time, Wrba's figure of Diana created an equivalent to the new image of women at the turn of the century.
• Once part of the significant collection of the Cologne industrialist and art collector Dr. Max Meirowsky (1866–1949), alongside masterpieces of modern art by French artists such as Renoir and Gauguin, as well as by van Gogh.
PROVENANCE: The Dr. Max Meirowsky (1866-1949) Collection, Cologne (until 1938: Hans W. Lange).
Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, Munich (inv. no. G 4941. Acquired from the above in 1938 through the auction house Hans W. Lange, until 2024).
Restitution of the above to the heirs of Dr. Max Meirowsky (2024).
