Erste Ausgabe. Exemplar auf "ordinary paper", zugleich in sich mit allen Tafeln vollständiges Exemplar ohne die Folge der Gründerporträts (vgl. Tooley S. 17: "Copies were sold without, and with, Portraits of the Founders of the Colleges "). Zwei Tafeln (mit drei Abbildungen) aus Band II sind als Doubletten in Band I enthalten, ferner finden sich in Bd. II 5 montierte, kolorierte und handschriftlich bezeichnete lithographische Tafeln mit Innenansichten aus einem anderen Werk (ca. 1850). - Unter den schönen Darstellungen nach Pugin, Mackenzie, Westall, Nash, Turner u. a. sind Ansichten von Christ Church Cathedral, Trinity College Chapel, Magdalen Hall, Bodleian Library, Clarendon Printing House, Astronomical Observatory, Botanic Garden u. v. m., ferner die Kleidung verschiedener akademischer Grade wie Doctor in Physic , Bachelor of Arts , Student in Civil Law etc.

Beautiful view work of Oxford and its university, illustrated with numerous aquatint plates and some costume illustrations. First edition, "small paper" copy published without the portraits of the founders of the colleges (cf. Tooley p. 17). With 82 mostly col. engr. and aquatint plates, and with 2 duplicate plates from vol. II, as well as 5 additional col. lithogr. plates from another, later work. Later half marocco with floral gilt decoration on spine and gilt edges. 2 vols. - Lacking both half titles as well as p. IX-XIV "Arrangement of the plates" and 1 text leaf in vol. I. Occasional foxing, plates with offsetting, but overall good copy with wide margins. Edges rubbed, boards scraped. - Copy of Constance Rashdall, Oxford (wife of Hastings Rashdall, 1858-1924, Dean of Carlisle 1917-24).
