• The "Rembrandt Overpaintings" are part of the "Art about Art" series, in which Arnulf Rainer paints over Odd Master reproductions.
• The artist combines photography and painting in a characteristic way.
• His painterly alienation does not destroy the underlying work, but changes and enhances the picture's expressiveness through the application of the radiant colors.
• Rainer's overpaintings are regarded the central principle of his work and a significant contribution to European post-war art.
