Vollständiges Exemplar der zoologischen Enzyklopädie mit den schönen kolorierten Tafeln.
Erste Ausgabe. - "A rare work devoted to the popular side of natural history." (Wood) - Die Vorlage für die Artikel und Kupfertafeln bildete die große naturkundliche und ethnographische, der Öffentlichkeit zugängliche Sammlung von Sir Ashton Lever (1729-1788) in London, deren Exponate tlw. von den Cookschen Reisen stammten. Die "Leverian Collection" wurde 1806 durch Verkauf aufgelöst.
EINBAND: Lederbände der Zeit (Rücken stilgerecht erneuert und mit 2 Rückenschildern). 37, 5 : 26 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 100 kolorierten Kupfertafeln. - ZUSTAND: Tlw. unten im Bundsteg mit leichtem Wasserrand, insgesamt sauber. Einbände stellenw. mit Beschabungen. - PROVENIENZ: Mit gestochenem Exlibris des 18. Jhs. für Sir Robert Laurie.

First edition. Complete copy with 100 col. copperplates, mostly based on the Leverian collection. 2 vols. Contemp. calf (spine renewed in contemp. style and with 2 labels). - Partly slightly waterstained in the bottom of the gutter, otherwise clean copy. Bindings scraped in places. - With 18th cent. bookplate for Sir Robert Laurie.
