Signed and dated in lower right and titled in lower left. Dated by a hand other than that of the artist on the reverse. Image inscribed with information on colors and composition by the artist. 70 x 55.6 cm (27.5 x 21.8 in), the full sheet. [CH].
• Heckel composed a large-size, atmospheric landscape scene from an autumnal, almost mosaic carpet of colors and a play of light and shade.
• The artist combined several different techniqus to create a particularly aesthetic composition with a varying surface texture.
• Around 1934/35, Heckel still had a few solo shows before he faced increasing oppression from the Nazi regime, which culminated in the confiscation of 800 of his works from German museums in context of the "Degenerate Art" campaign in 1937.
The work is registered in the archive of the Erich Heckel Estate, Hemmenhofen on Lake Constance. We are grateful to Ms. Renate Ebner for the kind support in cataloging this lot.
