In connection with the painting "Abendmahl" (Urban 316), the catalog raisonné mentions sketches of the apostle heads in the Collection Gustav Schieflers, which this work used to be part of.

• Preliminary work for the important painting "Abendmahl" from 1909, a document of Nolde's radical transition in terms of stylöe and motif.
• Rare motif from the small group of religious piuctures.
Accompanied by a photo expertise from Prof. Dr. Manfred Reuther, former director of the Foundation Ada and Emil Nolde, Klockries, from May 5, 2019. The work is registered in his archive as "Nolde A - 129/2019".
