Seltene deutsche Ausgabe des Hortus sanitatis, die in Text und Illustrationen der lateinischen Parallelausgabe des Apiarius aus dem gleichen Jahr folgt.
Behandelt Tiere, Vögel, Fische und edle Steine, weggelassen sind die Vorrede, das Buch von den Kräutern, Harnzeichen und Skelett.
Das Werk besticht mit seinen qualitätvollen Holzschnitten, die neben Tieren u. a. auch Fabeltiere, Mineralien, Laboratorien, Apotheken, Edelsteinläden und Handelsschiffe zeigen. "Die Holzschnitte der Naturkörper sind ebenso zahlreich, wie in den früheren Ausgaben, aber durchaus neu gezeichnet und geschnitten, zum Theil von besserer Erfindung und Ausführung .. vorzüglich ist die Titeleinfassung" (Choulant).
EINBAND: Halbleinendecke des 20. Jhs. Folio. 27 : 19 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit breiter figürlicher Holzschnitt-Titelbordüre und über 530 Textholzschnitten (tls. wdh.). - KOLLATION: 5 nn. Bll. (ohne das 6. w. Bl.), 141 röm. num. Bll. - ZUSTAND: Ohne Holzschnitt-Druckermarke am Ende. - Fingerfl., stellenw. braunfl. und leicht wasserrandig, wenige Bll. mit kl. Randeinriß (1 länger), letztes Bl. mit größerem Eckabriß (ohne Textverlust), Titel in Kopf- und Seitensteg knapp beschnitten. Buchblock intakt.

Rare German edition of the Hortus Sanitatis. Follows in text and illustration the Latin parallel edition by Apiarius of the same year, deals with animals, birds, fishes and precious stones; the section on herbals of former editions has been omitted. With woodcut title-border and more than 530 woodcuts (incl. repetitions) in the text, newly drawn and cut for this and a parallel edition in Latin. 20th cent. half cloth chemise (book block intact). - Lacking last leaf with woodcut printer's device. Fingerstained, brown- and slightly waterstained in places, a few ll. with small marginal tear (1 longer), last leaf with a larger corner tear (without loss of text), title cropped close at top and fore edge.
