• The irrational and unreal, the almost formless alienation of the motif is a key element in Richard Oelze's work.
• Oelze's contact with the surrealists Salvador Dalí, André Breton, Paul Éluard and Max Ernst in Paris at the beginning of the 1930s is reflected in his work.
• Works from the 1950s are among the artist's most haunting pieces.
