In 1920 the gallery Goltz in Munich organized the artist's first solo show. In 1925 he showed twelve works, among them our work, in the important Mannheim New Objectivity exhibition. It is a wonderful example of the manifold influences that can be found in Georg Schrimpf's art: One the one hand, the influence of paintings from German Romanticism can be observed, particularly that of the Nazarenes, on the other hand we find traces of Italian Renaissance art. However, impulses from contemporaries can also be seen in Georg Schrimpf's works. The standard attribution to New Objectivity may not be wrong, but it is not unconditionally right, either. In his works, especially in those showing people, Georg Schrimpf rendered a contemplative world that remained unmatched in the context of modern painting in those days. He was not much of a friend of the cool and distanced style of New Objectivity, instead his motifs are characterized by a warm feeling.
