"I made drawings of dunes, the sea, the wavelines and crests, the froth, of the fishermen, rowing, fighting with the elements, trudging along the beach, mending their nets, and their women and daughters bathing on flodded sand, the resting barges with their tall masts, clouds and storm. My art and the work as a fishermen's hand and they joy that came along with it were inseparable."
Hermann Max Pechstein, quote from: Pechstein, Erinnerungen 1960, p. 37, in: Peter Thurmann. Max Pechstein - Ein Expressionist aus Leidenschaft. Retrospektive, p. 21, 2010
