Walter Dexel developed the ability to focus on a few elementary forms from an early point on. In the 1920s they emerged in the characteristic pure clarity that would henceforth determine the composition. Dexel pursued his aim with a consistency that earned him a prime position among the artists of Constructivism that is comparable with the Russian avant-garde. What makes Dexel's compositions so amazing is the clear message that does not allow any sort of lyricism and that always bears witness of the current state. This is what makes his works so very actual and strikingly dateless. [SM]
