The painter, media- and object artist Bernard Aubertin is one of the most renowned representatives of the art group "Zéro". Bernard Aubertin was born at Fontenay-aux-Roses in France in 1934. After the war he began to study at the Parissian École des Métiers d'Art and the École de Formation des Professeurs de Dessin (1950-1953). His early works were still kept in the style of the avant-garde from before World War II. The year 1957 saw the breakthrough of Bernard Aubertin's artistic development: Subsequent to an encounter with works by Yves Klein, Bernard Aubertin left the path of figuration and increasingly focused on the effects of pure colors, light, motion and abstract structures. The painter soon became interested in exploring the artistic values of fire, so that he employed the element, to him the source of all life, in his first kinetic objects. Scorch marks, burnt matches or fireworks are common elements in his works from the 1960s. Since the 1960s works by Bernard Aubertin have been on display at manyinternational exhibitions, among them shows in Paris (1972), Florence (1974), Caracas (1989) or Milan (1990). Bernard Aubertin died in Reutlingen in 2015.
