Sammelband mit zwei kolorierten Erstausgaben von Gesners berühmter Enzyklopädie.
"An encyclopaedia of contemporary knowledge, intended to replace not only medieval compilations but even Aristotle's work of the same title .. It was many times reprinted and although it often suffered at the hands of editors, it remained the standard reference book even as late als Linné and beyond, because neither Linné nor Ray included illustrations." (PMM 77). - Erste deutsche Ausgaben.
EINBAND: Zeitgenössischer Schweinslederband über Holzdeckeln mit reicher Blind- und Rollenprägung sowie 2 Messingschließen. Folio. 38 : 24 cm.- ILLUSTRATION: Mit 1 kolor. Titelholzschnitt (von 2) und über 800 kolor. und tlw. ganzseit. Textholzschnitten.- KOLLATION: 5 (st. 6) nn., 263 röm. num. Bll.; 6 Bll., 202 röm. num. Bll.- ZUSTAND: Fehlt der Titel des Vogelbuchs (ersetzt durch kolor. Faks. der Ausg. 1582). Sorgfältig restauriertes und farbkräftig koloriertes Exemplar: Rand- und Eckläsuren meist unauffällig ergänzt, vereinz. mit ebenso unauffällig ersetztem Text- und Bildverlust, stellenw. gering fleckig. Trotz der Mängel ansprechendes Exemplar in dekorativem Kolorit.

Colored copies of two first German editions of Gesner's famous encyclopedia. 2 works in 1 volume. With 1 (of 2) col. title-woodcuts and more than 800 col. woodcuts in text. Contemp. blindstamped pigskin over wooden boards with 2 brass clasps. - Lacking the title of the Vogelbuch (replaced by facs.). Carefully restored and nicely colored copy: Defects at corners and margins unobtrusively mended, here and there carefully replaced loss of text or picture, partly minor staining.
